A pair of black Newfoundlands feature in my latest novel,
The Condor's Feather.
I named them
Byron and
Bella, after Lord Byron and his wife.
Lord Byron's beloved dog which came from Newfoundland was called
Boatswain.
When Boatswain died in 1814 Lord Byron had him buried in the grounds of his home at Newstead Abbey.
I chose Newfoundlands to include in my novel because of their size, strength and endurance particulalry in the water.
Did you know they have webbed feet?
